Tweet this charities article

UNICEF has increased humanitarian assistance to countries in East Africa, where nearly 2 million children under five are currently at risk of starvation. Due to a deadly combination of drought, conflict and rising food prices, nearly half a million children are facing severe malnourishment. UNICEF delivers lifesaving nutrition and other basic supplies to keep vulnerable children alive and prevent disease.

Right now, children in East Africa are facing a desperate crisis caused by prolonged drought, soaring food prices and conflict. The United Nations has formally declared a famine in parts of southern Somalia. This crisis is getting worse and we need to act now to save lives. Children and women are the most vulnerable. More than 2 million children under five in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are acutely malnourished, including almost 500,000 children suffering from life-threatening severe acute malnutrition.
